Deckhead is a nautical term meaning the underside of a ship’s deck, normally paneled over with thin wooden planks to hide the structure, pipes, and electrical wires. Deckhead lights, accordingly, were light fixtures, originally mounted on the ceiling of the various decks of boats and deep-sea vessels, which later found a place in private homes, hotels, restaurants, industrial spaces, and public areas – on ceilings and on walls both indoors and outdoors.  This was the beginning of the Marine, Maritime or Nautical Lighting – a distinct, trendy and timeless style.
